How do I count the words in my document?

If you are submitting your document in Word format, simply use the “Word Count” function located in the Tools menu of your document. If the document is not in Word format, send us the file by e-mail to info@alphabetcommunications.ca . We will count the words for you and send you a quote.

What is a certified translator?

A certified translator is a translator member of the Québec professional order, called Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ).

Is it mandatory to be a certified translator to practice in the province of Quebec?

No. OTTIAQ is a reserved-title order, in other words, only members of OTTIAQ can call themselves “certified translators”. However, a non-member can practice the profession simply by using the title of “translator”.

What is the advantage of dealing with a certified translator?

To become certified, translators are subject to certain quality controls, in particular, holding a specialized university degree in translation, or a solid pertinent work experience. Certified translators also benefit from the order’s upgrading courses, in addition to complying with an Ethics Code. When you call upon a certified translator, you know that he or she is a professional whose skills have been verified and you will have recourse in the event of professional misconduct since the profession is governed by Québec’s Professional Code.
